Accessible Australia

In July 2010, Steve "WheelchairSteve" Wilkinson, Director of Accessible Business CIC, was on holiday in Australia.  Below are some reviews of places he visited showing how well those places satisfied his particular access needs.

While there, he visited Disability Information and Resource Centre (www.dircsa.org.au), a well established an progressive service based in Adelaide supporting people with disabilities.  Representatives of DIRC liked the idea of the Accessible Places website, and discussions have begun to determine how they can operate the website for the benefit of residents of South Australia and visitors to Australia from all over the World.

As a Featured Business, for which a small annual fee is payable, the owners/management of the business will see an enhanced listing for their business as in this example.

Full address and contact details will be shown, including a link to the business's own website and a Google map.

They will receive a personal log in to change the content of the wording in this section as often as they wish and add photos similar to that shown below.

if the business is featured on Tripadvisor, the renowned international travel review website, a widget will appear alongside as shown featuring the latest generic reviews.

The business will be able to upload their Access Statement and they will be prompted by email whenever a review is posted and will have the right to reply.

They will also receive regular statements providing statistical information about needs satisfaction feedback given to them by visitors as well as having access to general statistical information about all feedback received.

Comments
3cm (1in) step at entrance into accessible toilet. Inward opening door led to a large transfer area, which was occupied by a 1m x 0.5m pallet trolley, limiting access.

Comments
Lots of pathways and wide gateways enabling a wheelchair or scooter user to get up close to animals.  Some fairly steep hills, so assistance was required for me at times as I am a manual wheelchair user.
